The accompanying press release for Annabelle Kay’s latest EP states that the songstress is known for her ‘sporadic long stays in the middle of isolated corners of the world where she seeks solitude and inspiration’. Well Nhulunbuy was just one of those isolated corners and our little town has the honour of being the exact corner where this beautiful collection of 5 tracks was born. Yes, Annabelle Kay wrote ‘I think I’m Lost, My Love’ right here in Gove and it is an absolute joy to take in.

Although the talented artist has a sound unmistakably rooted in sweet folk, her lyrics reveal a gritty understanding of love and loss that belies her young age. One cannot help but compare her vocals and musical poetry to folk greats such as Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell. Certainly, the standout track which has already received heavy airplay here at Gove FM is ‘Next Time Round’. It’s rock-influenced folk with triumphant lyrics that many a girl (and boy) with a broken heart can relate to.

Annabelle Kay is receiving a lot of attention with this EP so I hope you tipped her when she was pouring beers at the Arno because the lass will soon be super famous. She is well on the way with many of her tracks on high rotation across the country’s biggest radio stations. Just to think, little old Gove made it happen.

Tune in each weekday just before the midday news to hear a track from Gove FM’s Feature Release of the Week!
