The Waifs –  “Beautiful You” reviewed by Lisa Heathcote

When I was asked if I would like to write a review for The Waifs new album “beautiful you” it was a resounding YES. Its no secret that I am a massive Waifs fan with my love affair starting back in 1994
This is the bands seventh studio album and whilst there are no surprises I feel this album has a different level of maturity. Perhaps children, divorce, rehab and lifes ups and downs reflect where they’ve arrived.
This album took quite a few listens before I decided “Yep, this is a winner.
Stand out tracks for me are, Black dirt track which is a personal reflection from childhood to adulthood. The title track Beautiful you. Someones gonna get hurt which has all of the Waifs classic musical ingredients. If you’re after a track to really boogie and get down to then you cant go past February. Its sure to be a dance floor favourite. My least favourite tracks are the three that feature Josh. Just too country for me but sure to be big in Tamworth and Gympie.
The Waifs have evolved as three individual artists but essentially this album is still classic blues, country, folk. Beautiful You isn’t  “Up all night” the album that won four arias but for true Waifs fans you wont be disappointed.

Listen in to Gove FM as each week we feature a new release by an Australian artist or group. Every day before the midday news, hear the feature artists track, and Wednesdays after the 2pm news, tune in for an interview with the featured artist.
